HOME STAR Passes the House!

Yesterday, the HOME STAR bill that we have previously reported on through our GaPA Thursday Blog, passed in the house. This bill offers tax incentives for retrofitting homes to increase energy efficiency. Thanks to the National Trust for Historic Preservation and other dedicated preservationists, the bill considers appropriate treatment for windows in historic buildings and includes a rebate for the installation of storm windows. This rebate will hopefully dissuade homeowners from tearing out important elements of their historic home and encourage a more preservation-friendly method of improving the energy efficiency of existing historic windows. This is an important step that reinforces the green benefits of preservation. After all- the greenest building is the one that is already built.

More details are available on The National Trust’s blog here.
