This week, the Trust gratefully recognizes John Dewberry of Dewberry Capital. The Dewberry Capital Foundation is generously sponsoring the upcoming Uptown Rhodes Race- a 5K footrace benefiting the Georgia Trust. Register online, and bring your dogs and your kids for a community event that celebrates the architectural heritage of beautiful Uptown Atlanta and historic Ansley Park.

John Dewberry’s dedication to the state of Georgia runs deep. A former quarterback for Georgia Tech, he has since devoted himself to revitalizing Atlanta’s Uptown area. He has successfully completed mixed-use developments and office projects like Peachtree Pointe. Mounting ambitious plans, he has shown a scope of vision that embraces and encompasses the Trust’s preservation initiatives. He has generously donated not only his gifts and energy to the Uptown Rhodes Race, he has also permitted use his property, South Rhodes Center, for the event.

His philanthropy has greatly benefited the Trust, and we hope you will come out and run with Mr. Dewberry and his dog, Georgia, in our First Annual Uptown Rhodes Race, Saturday, June 6^th.

Member Spotlight

A Ramble weekend is typically eventful, often hectic, but always magical. As all of us on the Trust staff settle back at our desks in Rhodes Hall, we can reminisce on a very successful trip to Augusta, thanks in no small part to Erick Montgomery, Executive Director of Historic Augusta, Inc. This is his twentieth year of service to that organization, a great accomplishment and a great service to Georgia's history.

An Eagle Scout and a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, Erick Montgomery is a diligent caretaker of Augusta's great wealth of historic places. He is also a published writer, having coauthored An Augusta Scrapbook: Twentieth Century Memories and published several articles in the New Georgia Encyclopedia. He has won multiple Preservation Awards from the Georgia Trust, and is also a Governor's Awards in the Humanities recipient. We all thank Erick, his family, and the staff of Historic Augusta for volunteering to help us make this a Ramble to remember. Eric's dedication and commitment to making the event a success are a testament to his passion for preservation.

Come hear Dr. Tracey Laird of Agnes Scott College speak on The Preservation of Cajun Music. The event is free and open to the public. Parking is available on Spring Street.

Member Spotlight

As the Trust prepares for its Ramble to Augusta this weekend, we are honored to recognize a long-time Rambler and cherished member, William T. Underwood.

A past Camille W. Yow Volunteer of the Year winner, Bill can be found at Rhodes Hall most Tuesdays, helping out in membership or keeping track of the reception area for visitors. His dedication and consistency make him an invaluable asset to the Trust- he even cleaned out our supply closet last week, which is certainly a labor of love. His decades of devotion, insight and unstinting generosity are gifts to all of us here, and we cannot thank him enough.

A devoted father and husband, we look forward to seeing two generations of Underwoods rambling as Bill and Ardath are joined by their daughter and her husband for our adventures in Augusta.

Member Spotlight

As we approach our Spring Ramble in Augusta, we’d like to take the time to recognize one of that city’s favorite sons and a great asset to the Georgia Trust, Clay Boardman. Mr. Boardman is CEO of Augusta Capital, LLC, and a member of the Trust’s Board of Trustees. His dedication to rehabilitation has led him to to undertake several sites in Augusta, including Enterprise Mill, one of our Ramble sites.

Clay Boardman is a graduate of the College of Charleston and a veteran of many redevelopment projects. His firm has taken on preservation projects large and small, from Sutherland Mill to the Houghton School. A family man, Mr. Boardman is devoted to his three children. His mother, Mrs. Anne Boardman, has generously offered her loft for our Heritage Reception, open to Heritage level members and above.

Mr. Boardman’s creative eye and pragmatic approach are combined with a desire for responsible redevelopment, and his achievements have had a significant impact on preservation efforts in Augusta and in Georgia. We thank Clay Boardman for all his efforts and generosity. His commitment to innovative preservation is an example for us all. Join us in Georgia's Garden City to take in Clay Boardman's successes firsthand.
